Can you see the face in this mountain?
The Incas could! They believed that the face in the mountain resembled the Incan mountain god "Apu", apparently the formation is pretty much in its natural state, with only minor work on the nose for sharpness. The formation was seen as a sign of good luck for the area - let me know below if you can spot it too!

This mountain is opposite the Incan site and city of "Ollantaytambo". It lies in the Urubamba valley (2,800m high!!) and the area was used especially for its rich agriculture - in order to sustain the Incan empire in harsher times, they built granaries and storehouses (bottom right) high up in these mountains where the cool and dry air would preserve their food. This site was especially important for the Incas during the Spanish conquest of Peru - after losing Cusco (the nearby Incan capital) the Incan emperor "Manco Inca", fortified the site briefly before relocating to the more strategic "Vilcabamba" - the fabled lost city and the last stand of the Incas, which Hiram Bingham mistook his discovery of the equally significant Machu Picchu for.

This site is pretty much the last stop for anyone on their voyage to visit the magnificent Machu Picchu; unless you are travelling via the Inca Trail, the only way is to take the trains from the local train station through the Urubamba Valley (a visual feast in itself, along the wild Urubamba river which is pretty much the fourth river to join from the source of the river Amazon).

Dzongri top (4050 m), meeting place of Man and Mountain God. Situated on the route to Kanchendzonga Base Camp from Yuksom in west Sikkim. The peak left to prayer flags is Mt. Pandim, 6691 m. Other peaks visible from Dzongri are Mt. Kanchendzonga, Mt. Kabru south, Mt. Kabru north, Mt. Rathong, Mt. Simvo, Mt. Jopuno etc
